Artificial Grass West Covina

Keeping Your West Covina Synthetic Grass Beautiful!

Artificial Turf Maintenance

Artificial turf maintenance

Installing artificial turf in West Covina drastically decreases the cost and maintenance of your yard. You'll never need to mow or edge your lawn again. No more toxic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides.

No more watering, allergies, bugs and pests.

These are great advantages for installing synthetic grass. But if you want to keep your artificial grass in tip top shape here's a few suggestions for your new low maintenance yard.

Keeping your new artificial grass in tip top shape

Removing leaves from artificial turf

We recommend raking or sweeping the leaves off rather than using a blower.

When the artificial turf is installed, the infill (usually washed silica sand, Envirofill or Tcool) is power brushed into the artificial grass blades, acting as a ballast for the middle of the artificial grass as well as keeping the blades of the turf erect. Most gardeners or homeowners who use a blower point the blower straight down as they move across the yard. This will possibly result in the infill being blown into an uneven patter across the turf.

A green rake or broom of your choice is a simple way to rake or sweep off the leaves or debris. If you must use a blower, use a light skimming motion across your new artificial grass.

Cleaning off Dust

Some neighborhoods accumulate dust at a much quicker rate than others, such as homes or businesses adjacent to freeways or agricultural areas. Rinsing your synthetic turf every now and then as needed is a great way to keep it fresh and looking green.

Weed removal from artificial grass

Unless your artificial grass is pet turf, a weed barrier was installed to help prevent weed growth. Weed problems vary from neighborhood to neighborhood. If your neighbor keeps his yard unattended and full of weed growth, you’ve probably noticed a lot more weed in your yard than in other areas.

If a weed can sprout through concrete, then it can sprout along the edges of artificial grass. Since one of the benefits of artificial turf is having a yard free of pesticides, poisons, and toxins, we recommend not introducing toxic pesticides into the turf area. Simply pull the weeds by hand as you see the appear.

Depending on the size of your turf area, this might take 10 minutes every few months. I personally have artificial turf installed in my driveway and I maybe spend 5 minutes every 3 or 4 months. The rest of my yard is fairly weed free, as are my neighbor’s houses, so weeds in my neighborhood are not much of a problem.

Treating Pet Turf odor

Even with the proper infills, odors may start to appear in your artificial pet turf. This would depend on the age of your dog, as older dogs urinate twice as much as younger dogs, the size of the dog, and the number of dogs.

A great way to control this is using Simple Green artificial turf cleaner, which can be bought at Home Depot. It is a safe, non-toxic cleaner for your turf.

You may also have us come out and deodorize and install more pet infill every 3-4 years, once again depending on the factors mentioned above.

Cleaning Spills on Artificial Grass

Your artificial grass was meant to be used and enjoyed, but Aunt Regina and Uncle Ray may not have the steadiest hands when enjoying their wine. Or maybe the kids lost control of the ketchup bottle. Spills are going to happen.

Most spills will simply wash away, but if not, once again pull out the Simple Green cleaner, let it soak and you should be good.

Remember, in any case Tencate artificial turfs are backed by a 15 year warranty, and their warehouse is right here in Anaheim. Being domestic made artificial turf, Tencate products are always available.

Repairing Damaged turf

If your turf was damaged due to improper use (dragging sharp heavy metal across the turf, melting it with hot coals, etc.), we don’t have to replace the whole yard. We can match your product to the Tencate Tiger Turf product installed, or any other domestic made turf if you know the manufacturer. We simply cur out the damaged section and seam another piece into place. Voila!

Note that we will not repair damaged imported artificial grass. There’s a reason we don’t sell it – it is poor quality, and it doesn’t last!
